About the role

Amity Foundation, an internationally acclaimed Teaching and Therapeutic Community, seeks compassionate and enthusiastic individuals to join their team as a Substance Abuse Counselor (Demonstrator) at their residential project in Tucson. This opportunity involves working in prison programs to assist the inmate population while enhancing your training and experience in the field.

What You Will Do

• Provides group and individual sessions and related rehabilitative treatment services to substance abuse clients in a residential setting.
• Serves as a client advocate under supervision.
• Participates in staffing and interacts with clients' families and referral agencies.
• Evaluates emergencies and takes appropriate action.
• Compiles and evaluates comprehensive social, legal, and personal histories of clients.
• Maintains accurate and timely client records of a confidential nature.
• Determines short and long-term client goals and treatment plans with clients.
• Attends selected in-service workshops and seminars.
• Prepares reports as assigned.
• May appear in court with the client.
• Maintains the physical environment and participates in community building activities as appropriate to the position.

What You Will Bring

• A high school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Minimal knowledge of contemporary substance abuse treatment practices in a residential setting.
• A good understanding of human emotions.
• An understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse and behavioral health problems.
• The ability to relate to clients effectively.
• Some knowledge of counseling and therapy practices.
• The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• The ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressure generated through association with substance abuse clients.
• A proper attitude and techniques to residential clients.
