DeltaV Technical Lead

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced DeltaV Technical Lead to own the end-to-end delivery of a complex DeltaV Batch automation project. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing the detail design phase, leading a team of engineers through build, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and providing expert-level support through post-go-live stabilisation. The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical authority for the DeltaV system and will interface directly with the client's operations, engineering, and QA/regulatory teams throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities By Project Phase Phase 1 Detail Design Lead Functional Design Specification (FDS) authoring and reviewDefine DeltaV system architecture, network topology, and hardware sizingEstablish batch recipe strategy: S88 hierarchy, equipment phase library, formula parameter designAuthor and review Control Narrative, Cause & Effect matricesDefine naming conventions, module templates, and configuration standardsParticipate in HAZOP / SIL reviews as DeltaV SMEDevelop and agree the FAT / SAT test strategy and acceptance criteria Phase 2 Build & FAT Lead and coordinate the DeltaV configuration team during buildOwn equipment phase library development and master recipe authoringPerform technical reviews of all configured modules and recipesDrive Factory Acceptance Testing: develop test scripts, lead execution, manage punch listEnsure configuration management and version control discipline throughout buildSupport simulation and dynamic testing of batch sequences Phase 3 Commissioning & SAT Lead on-site DeltaV commissioning activities and manage the commissioning teamOversee loop checking, I/O verification, and controller checkoutLead Site Acceptance Testing execution and sign-offManage site configuration changes and punch list resolution under change controlLiaise with instrument, electrical, and process teams to resolve interface issuesSupport operator training and produce training materials Phase 4 Go-Live & Support Lead the cutover plan and manage DeltaV go-live executionProvide hyper-care support during initial production batchesDiagnose and resolve post-go-live incidents, batch failures, and performance issuesManage and implement post-go-live change requests under MOCSupport validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) in regulated environmentsProduce as-built documentation and knowledge transfer to client support team Leadership & Project Responsibilities Team leadership: direct line or technical management of 3–8 DeltaV engineers and technicians across project phasesTechnical governance: review and approve all deliverables produced by the DeltaV team; enforce quality and standardsClient interface: act as primary technical contact with client engineering, operations, IT, and QA stakeholdersScope management: identify technical scope risks and changes early; engage with the project manager to assess impact on cost and scheduleResource planning: forecast skill and resource requirements by phase; coordinate with the delivery managerRisk management: maintain a technical risk register; lead mitigation actions for DeltaV-specific risksVendor management: manage the relationship with Emerson and third-party integrators where required Required Experience & Skills 10+ years in industrial process automation with at least 5 years hands-on DeltaV engineeringDemonstrated delivery of DeltaV Batch projects from design through commissioningDeep knowledge of ISA-88 (S88) batch standard: procedural model, physical model, recipe typesStrong expertise in DeltaV equipment phase development, phase state model, and phase parameters/reportsProficient in DeltaV Recipe Studio: master recipe authoring, formula parameters, parallel branching, equipment arbitrationExperience with DeltaV system architecture: controller sizing, network design, redundancy configuration, application station deploymentSolid understanding of process control fundamentals: PID, interlocks, alarms, cause & effectProven experience leading FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities for DeltaV systemsExperience producing and reviewing FDS, Control Narratives, and test documentationFamiliarity with DeltaV Batch Historian and batch reporting / electronic batch recordsStrong understanding of change management and configuration control disciplinesPrior team leadership experience: task delegation, technical review, mentoring junior engineersAbility to work effectively with multi-discipline site teams (instrumentation, electrical, process, IT)Strong written and verbal communication; confident presenting to client stakeholders Desirable Experience Experience in regulated industries (pharmaceutical, biotech, food & beverage) and GMP / 21 CFR Part 11 complianceFamiliarity with DeltaV IQ/OQ/PQ validation lifecycle and associated documentationKnowledge of DeltaV SIS / SIL-rated safety instrumented systemsExperience with DeltaV Continuous Historian and OSIsoft PI integrationExposure to DeltaV Operate graphics development and HMI standards (ISA-101)Emerson DeltaV certification or completion of formal Emerson training courses Working Arrangements Project phases 1–2 (Design & Build): primarily office/hybrid with regular client site visitsPhases 3–4 (Commissioning & Go-Live): full-time on-site presence required; may include extended periods away from home baseWillingness to work flexible hours during critical commissioning and go-live windows Salary And Other Compensation Applications will be accepted until Nov 16, 2026. The annual salary for this position is between $80,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
