About the role
The Delivery Helper delivers materials to job sites, reports shortages and claims to the supervisor, and assists in loading and storing materials. Success in this position could lead to other opportunities within the Driver, Warehouse, and Yard functions.
Responsibilities
- Operate safely and participate in a positive work environment.
- Check orders for accuracy and organize and secure loads.
- Obtain supervisor approval on all loads for proper count and condition.
- Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in the yard and warehouse.
- Deliver and unload materials to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Follow guidelines from the supervisor and provide excellent customer service.
- Assist in unloading material returned for credit.
- Relay messages sent by customers while on the job.
- Assist the supervisor, other employees, and other work areas as assigned.
- Assist the driver in evaluating delivery sites, noting potential hazards, obstacles, or physical challenges; guide the driver in maneuvering on and off customer property to avoid damage as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards and adhere to the company’s commitment to workplace safety.
- Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience with delivery, material handling, and/or warehouse required.
Skills
- Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions, and complete forms.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
- Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
- Proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies (e.g., smartphone, GPS, and other necessary business applications).
