Delivery Driver Trainee

About the role

The DOT Driver Trainee position in Wichita, KS will deliver product along assigned routes consisting of multiple stops with various levels of difficulty. You will maintain delivery time windows for each stop on the route and keep records, vehicle logs, and cargo or billing statements in accordance with regulations. Upon successful completion of the driver training program, the expectation is promotion to a Driver DOT position with Ben E. Keith Foods.

Responsibilities

• Deliver product along assigned routes with multiple stops of varying difficulty
• Read customer invoices to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed, and delivered
• Assemble customer orders for delivery to places of business
• Maintain delivery time windows for each stop on the route
• Ensure accuracy of delivered product with no damage due to mishandling
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
• Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment (e.g., gas, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes) to ensure proper working condition
• Report mechanical problems encountered with vehicles
• Maintain records such as vehicle logs, cargo, and billing statements in accordance with regulations
• Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL driver’s license
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to perform arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects, assignments, and tasks while monitoring time and resource use
• Knowledge of customer service principles, including needs assessment and meeting quality standards
• High School diploma or GED
• One year or more of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Driver safety is important to Ben E. Keith. Dash cameras with artificial intelligence are used to recognize safe driving, capture safety events, and improve driver performance. Videos may also be used to exonerate drivers in accidents. All drivers sign a consent form upon hire to confirm their understanding.
