Delivery Driver Local Trainee - DOT

About the role

The DOT Driver Trainee will deliver product along assigned routes with multiple stops, maintain delivery time windows, and ensure accurate, damage-free deliveries. Upon successful completion of the training program, the expectation is promotion to a full Driver DOT position with Ben E. Keith Foods.

Responsibilities

• Deliver product along assigned routes consisting of multiple stops with various levels of difficulty
• Read customer invoices to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed, and delivered
• Assemble customer orders for delivery to places of business
• Maintain delivery time windows for each stop on the route
• Ensure accuracy of delivered product with no damage due to mishandling
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
• Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment (e.g., gas, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes)
• Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles
• Maintain records such as vehicle logs, cargo, and billing statements in accordance with regulations
• Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL driver’s license
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects, assignments, and tasks while managing time and resources effectively
• Knowledge of customer service principles, including needs assessment and meeting quality standards
• High School diploma or GED; one year or more of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform repetitive lifting of over 50 lbs., occasional lifting over 100 lbs.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
• Must be able to walk extensively
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend at the waist, stoop, and squat to lift heavy items properly
• Must have normal use of shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, feet, and legs
• Must be able to read numbers and product descriptions

Driver Safety

Driver safety is a priority at Ben E. Keith. Dash cameras with artificial intelligence are used to monitor safe driving, capture safety events, and improve driver performance. Videos may also be used to exonerate drivers in accidents. All drivers sign a consent form upon hire acknowledging this policy.
