Delivery Driver

About the Role

This classification performs work functions associated with delivery and warehouse activities, including loading/unloading trucks and driving delivery trucks to deliver merchandise to customers' homes or businesses.

Responsibilities

• Drives truck in assigned zone or area to deliver products; ensures safe operations of vehicles by assisting with directing trucks into unloading areas.
• Loads truck in preparation for daily deliveries; unloads merchandise at customer location and sets up as necessary.
• Obtains customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery; records deliveries on delivery record and submits to management.
• Monitors proper maintenance of and regular inspection of vehicles for adherence to safety practices; performs general maintenance of vehicles; records fuel/fluid usage and submits to management.
• Unloads merchandise from warehouse and freight trucks.
• Maintains cleanliness of store/warehouse interior and grounds; upholds the company’s Delivery Standards.
• Places stock on shelves or racks and sets up merchandise and sales promotion displays.
• Assembles merchandise as required.
• Assists with repossessions of goods.
• Performs general maintenance and grounds keeping duties for warehouse and/or store.
• Performs customer service inspections and/or repairs as needed.
• Performs collection field calls to delinquent customers at the request of management.

• Assists in other store departments as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; six months experience in a distribution or warehouse environment; or any combination of training, experience, and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License and have a general familiarity with the delivery area.
• Must be able to meet DOT requirements (e.g., Medical Examiners Certification and Driver’s DOT qualification file).

• Situational Reasoning: Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in dealing with repetitive or short-cycle operations or duties carried out according to set procedures.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort, regularly involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 100 pounds and occasionally handling heavier objects (in excess of 100 pounds).
• Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Ability to communicate orally is required.
• Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, temperature extremes, electric currents, or toxic agents/chemicals.
