Deli Sales Associate

About the role

Weis Markets is looking for a Deli Associate who will keep service areas well-stocked and appealing, ensure product freshness, and assist customers with a polite, professional attitude. The role involves food preparation, operating slicing equipment, maintaining sanitation standards, and supporting overall department operations.

Responsibilities

• Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing at all times to meet customer demands
• Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions, and helps resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner
• Ensures freshness and condition of merchandise in display cases along with proper prices and correct signs
• Properly rotates product and handles spoiled, damaged, or expired products according to company procedures
• Operates slicing equipment to provide meats and cheeses based on customer preferences; packages items and applies price, weight, and date stickers
• Prepares ready-to-eat foods to individual customer orders
• Prepares platters of sliced meats, cheeses, and vegetable trays; uses knives and kitchen utensils safely
• Adheres to company recipes and safety policies when preparing food such as chicken, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and other hot or cold items
• May operate cash registers; follows policies for proper money handling to avoid overages or shortages; adheres to company and state laws for tobacco and alcohol sales
• Responsible for general sanitation; follows cleaning schedules to ensure work areas, equipment, counters, and display cases are well-maintained, clean, and meet health and OSHA requirements
• Disposes of trash properly
• Assists in inventory control through time and temperature practices; minimizes losses by returning products to refrigeration, maintaining logs, and following recipes
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained (training provided)
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries using power jack or hand jack (training provided)
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors
• Responsible for continuously improving job performance
• Responsible for utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company-sponsored footwear
• May assist in other departments as needed

Qualifications

• Completed or working towards a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• No prior experience required
