About the Role

This non-exempt position assists customers in their shopping experience by providing support in the kitchen and adhering to all sanitary and health-related protocols. The Deli Clerk reports to the Deli Manager.

Requirements

  • Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all equipment, food prep areas, dishes, and utensils in accordance with Food Safety and Guidelines.
  • Empty and clean all trash receptacles.
  • Assist the prep cook and kitchen staff as needed.
  • Follow rotation procedures to monitor product dates.
  • Ensure coolers, freezers, and preparation areas are clean and ready for deliveries.
  • Quickly unload incoming shipments and stock them neatly without damaging merchandise.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards for team and individual performance.
  • Familiarize yourself with department items to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate to management when necessary.
  • Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures; encourage team members to do the same.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Apply basic math and reading skills required for the position.

Additional duties may include:

  • Promoting department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.
  • Creating visually appealing display cases to showcase high-quality items.
  • Completing additional tasks assigned by management, assisting other stores or departments as needed, and learning new skills.

Physical Abilities

The following physical movements may be required during any scheduled shift:

  • Reaching overhead (up to 74 inches), twisting at the waist, and lifting objects up to 5 lbs with both hands.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items (up to 10 lbs of force).
  • Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs.
  • Bending and squatting, sometimes to floor level.
  • Working in cooler and freezer conditions.

Additional physical tasks may include:

  • Climbing a ladder, up to 5 feet high.
