Deli Clerk

About the role

As a Deli/Bakery Clerk at Fresh Thyme Market, you’ll keep all food service cases stocked and clean during business hours, assist customers with a friendly, energetic demeanor, and adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Food Service Department.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of deli/bakery cases, storage area, and work area for safety, including cleaning shelves, products, floors, and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock deli/bakery cases, ensuring proper presentation, organization, and tag/pricing accuracy as per department schematics.
• Examine product rotation, discarding expired or spoiled items.
• Assist customers with purchases, information, and product selection, including selling and cross-selling products.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons, promotional materials, and information on complementary foods.
• Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Prepare various deli/bakery items using appropriate ingredients and proper cooking times.
• Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
• Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and ensuring tags match products.
• Maintain a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
• Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in Food Service department processes and procedures (preferred).
• Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
• Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
• Ability to adapt to a high-volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team.
• Capacity to take initiative when problems arise.
• Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations.
• Advanced attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with peers and senior management.
• Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to lead, support, and contribute to team goals.
• Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations in a grocery retail environment.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Skills in operating food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales, and ovens.
• Capability to cut and weigh meats, salads, and cheeses.

Pay

This role starts between $14.50 and $16.00 per hour, with raises occurring in accordance with Fresh Thyme Market’s plan policy. The actual rate offered will meet or surpass the legal wage requirement for the job’s location.
