Default Specialist

About the role
This is an LA-based hybrid position requiring at least two (2) days in-office, reporting to the Director of Risk Management. The Default Specialist performs a variety of tasks related to servicing commercial and business-purpose real estate transactions post-closing, with a focus on the accurate handling and management of defaulted mortgage loans while ensuring compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional service to clients and non-clients, assisting with inquiries, questions, and concerns regarding their loans and other financial needs.
- Manage and process default notifications, track updates, and ensure delivery by email and certified mail.
- Set up and maintain default tracking and notes; monitor resolution timelines and escalate to management upon expiration.
- Monitor communication with borrowers and update plans to resolve defaults.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting for default tracking.
- Coordinate with other departments to complete documentation and ensure compliance with SEC regulations.
- Monitor defaulted loans secured by real estate collateral through system tracking and reporting.
- Prepare and review default documents for accuracy; maintain records for internal and external audits.
- Order or recommend appraisals or inspections of properties.
- Handle and redirect incoming phone calls from customers, law firms, and internal departments.
- Compile foreclosure referral packages, including documentation to complete the foreclosure process.
- Process default monitoring tasks daily.
- Stay current with training and understanding of default servicing processes.
Requirements
- Associate's degree preferred but not required.
- 2-3 years of experience with loan servicing documents and general policies.
- Knowledge of loan servicing, foreclosure documents, and the court/legal process of foreclosure.
- Strong customer service skills; highly motivated, focused, and goal-oriented.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, planning, and follow-up.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office, typing, and internet tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional grammar and demeanor.
- Prior default servicing experience.
Pay
This non-exempt, full-time position offers an hourly range of $31 - $36 plus discretionary bonus potential.
