Deckhand

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safety of the towing vessel and compliance with the safety management system.
• Reports unsafe conditions to the wheelhouse personnel on watch and takes action to prevent accidents.
• Complies with all applicable regulations.
• Reads and understands the Deckhand's Manual before boarding the vessel.
• Watches the videos during the first 30 days aboard the vessel.
• Trains under the guidance of the Mate or Relief Mate to learn the duties of a Deckhand.
• Asks questions and understands the safe way to perform a task before attempting to do it.
• Assumes the responsibilities of Deckhand as trained.
• Reads and signs off required reading during the first 30 days.
• Adheres to the provisions of the Certificate of Inspection (COI), if issued.
