Entry-level position for new graduate nurses who are still in or completing their new graduate orientation.

About the role

The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) I manages individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. This role collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to develop, execute, and evaluate the multidisciplinary plan of care, providing nursing services within the scope defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assessment
  • Conducts individualized patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within specified timeframes.
  • Performs ongoing assessments as determined by patient condition and reprioritizes care accordingly.
  • Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care, incorporating standards of care and patient outcomes.
• Planning
  • Develops, modifies, and integrates an individualized care plan incorporating medical plans, interdisciplinary input, and standards of care.
  • Establishes measurable patient goals in consultation with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Intervention
  • Performs treatments as ordered by providers accurately and timely.
  • Delivers therapeutic nursing interventions as established by the individualized plan of care.
  • Recognizes and responds to urgent or emergent patient risks, initiating resuscitative measures as needed.
  • Manages care for a specialty patient population with accountability and responsibility.
  • Provides culturally sensitive, non-judgmental care, preserving patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate patient care interventions.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluates patient responses to care and adjusts the interdisciplinary care plan based on effectiveness.
  • Problem-solves with the specialty team to improve patient outcomes.
  • Documents assessment findings, patient responses, and progress toward problem resolution.
• Patient Education
  • Identifies and addresses learning needs of patients and families, adapting teaching to their abilities.
  • Ensures patients and families demonstrate understanding of care plans.
  • Communicates with patients and families to include them in care decisions.

  • Assesses and meets personal learning and professional development needs.
  • Maintains current competency in nursing specialty and department requirements.
  • Attends educational programs, reviews professional publications, and may participate in professional societies.

  • Makes sound judgments in coordinating complex patient care demands.
  • Supervises delegated care based on personnel abilities and patient acuity.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.

  • Participates in service recovery and uses resources during complex situations.

• Resource Utilization and Stewardship
  • Supports organizational efforts for appropriate resource utilization (e.g., flexing during low census).
  • May train for charge nurse or preceptor roles if demonstrating strong leadership aptitude.

  • Participates in data collection for quality assurance if assigned.
  • Identifies and communicates recurring practice concerns in specialty areas.
  • Engages in initiatives driven by nurse-sensitive, quality, or unit-based metrics.

• Research/Evidence-Based Practice/Quality Improvement
  • May participate in research or evidence-based practice projects at an entry level.
  • Communicates research or quality improvement findings to peers.

Requirements

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• New graduate up to six months of RN experience.
• Registration as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or holds a compact license to practice in Virginia.
• AHA BLS Provider certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Cath Lab/Electrophysiology, Operating Room, Critical Care (All), Endoscopy, PACU, Interventional Radiology, Birth Center, Centra Specialty Hospital, Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Registered Nurse Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Pediatrics.
• Advanced and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (ACLS & PALS): Emergency Department.

Pay

$31.05 - $48.13 per hour.
