About the role
As a Dean of Students at Charter Schools USA, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational mission of the school. Your primary responsibility is to develop and enhance elective courses, afterschool college preparation programs, and workshops, while also ensuring the overall security, safety, and well-being of students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensures teachers are organized, manage their time well, and cover proper curriculum and assessments.
- Conducts 3-minute walk-throughs, reports non-compliance to the Principal.
- Works with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Lead Teachers to observe and evaluate instruction, classroom environments, and Personal Learning Plans (PLPs).
- Debriefs each observation/evaluation with a post-conference.
- Ensures teachers are using PLPs which personalize instruction and differentiate CSUSA schools from district schools.
- Makes sure teachers meet with students individually and conducts PLP training and checks PLPs quarterly.
- Serves as a liaison with Corporate Education to advise on classroom effectiveness.
- Provides professional development/coaching on research-based instructional strategies.
- Assigns teachers to arrival and dismissal duties; creates and updates schedules.
- Designs schedules to ensure teacher coverage for special areas like PE, Music, Art, Spanish, Computer, Library.
- Monitors and ensures the accuracy of grade books and progress reports/report cards.
- Oversees and interviews substitute teachers to ensure smooth transitions.
- Investigates problems of disciplinary nature, documents information, and reports findings to the appropriate individuals.
- Coordinates school bus supervision before and after school, oversees student lunchroom and work duty assignments, and supervises students detained after school hours for disciplinary reasons.
- Participates in school-based leadership opportunities and convenes meetings with Guidance Counselors and Principal.
- Assists with the enforcement of school/state attendance policies and ensures the school code of conduct is enforced consistently.

- Exhibits consistent attendance, punctuality, follows instructions, responds to management direction, solicits feedback to improve performance, and demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.
- Strives to implement best practices and positive character education consistently.
- Has the ability to demonstrate flexible and creative management of disciplinary issues.
- Can provide a supportive role to the principal.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Master's degree (MA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent preferred.
- Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
- Professional Certification in Educational Leadership for Applicable State preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Command of grades/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
- Understanding of and commitment to company values.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
- Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
