About the role
As a Dean of Students at Charter Schools USA, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational mission of the company. Your primary responsibility is to develop and enhance elective courses, afterschool college preparation programs, and workshops, while also ensuring the overall security, safety, and well-being of students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensures teachers are organized, manage their time well, and cover proper curriculum and assessments.
- Conducts 3-minute walk-throughs, reports non-compliance to the Principal.
- Works with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Lead Teachers to observe and evaluate instruction, classroom environments, and teacher adherence to curriculum maps.
- Uses both announced and unannounced evaluations to debrief with teachers.
- Monitors and analyzes data from formative and summative assessments, sets grade-level goals, and collaborates with the Leadership Team to set annual school goals.
- Supervises the setting of grade-level goals for teachers, ensures they meet with students individually, and conducts PLP training and checks PLPs quarterly.
- Oversees and monitors progress reports and report cards, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Serves as a liaison with Corporate Education to advise on classroom effectiveness and provides professional development/coaching on research-based instructional strategies.
- Assigns teachers to arrival and dismissal duties, creates schedules, and oversees substitute teachers.
- Investigates disciplinary issues, documents findings, and makes referrals as necessary.
- Coordinates school bus supervision, lunchroom and work duty assignments, and detention supervision.
- Participates in school-based leadership opportunities and convenes meetings with Guidance Counselors and the Principal.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment towards the position and the company's mission.
- Possesses strong time management and organizational skills.
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including oral and written communication, active listening, and negotiation.
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.
- Has a Master's degree (or equivalent) and relevant teaching certification.
- Exhibits flexibility and creativity in managing disciplinary issues and providing a supportive role to the principal.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Master's degree (MA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent preferred.
- Valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
- Professional Certification in Educational Leadership for applicable state preferred.
- Minimum of one to three years successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Command of grades/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory.
- Understanding of and commitment to company values.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
- Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
