About the role

The goal of this position is to assist the principal in providing cultural and administrative leadership to address student safety and well-being, social-emotional learning, school discipline, and overall school effectiveness, creating a strong culture for learning.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and support the mission, vision, and values of Harmony Public Schools
  • Obtain Danielson certification within 3 months of the first day in the assignment
  • Serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) at the assigned school, implementing instructional practices
  • Lead and facilitate a learning culture among teachers and staff
  • Lead and facilitate campus-wide data meetings and team data meetings
  • Conduct annual formal teacher observations and walkthroughs
  • Provide ongoing coaching to teachers using observation-feedback cycles
  • Plan and co-facilitate campus professional learning (PL) meetings
  • Plan with PLC leaders and model implementation of key Arc of the Year instructional techniques
  • Create and implement a campus improvement plan (CIP)
  • Support teachers in microcredential progress and provide periodic feedback to district and network leadership teams
  • Develop guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies
  • Establish clear expectations, systems, and routines for behaviors, including social and emotional supports
  • Lead strategies to proactively provide and coordinate student support services
  • Supervise teacher classroom management and train staff on student code of conduct and implementation of discipline
  • Develop and implement teacher orientations and maintain records of disciplinary actions taken
  • Communicate with parents and key stakeholders regarding student discipline and safety
  • Maintain a safe and orderly school environment and monitor the school ground actively for safety checks
  • Monitor student attendance and truancy, recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities
  • Assist in recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly effective teachers and staff
  • Oversee the work of assigned support staff and conduct their performance appraisals
  • Establish and implement a plan for social-emotional learning across the school aligned with HPS priorities
  • Lead Character School application and designation process at the state and national level
  • Establish a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and community
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops, and model personal commitment to developing self and others

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in PK-12 setting
  • Master’s Degree (preferred)

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of classroom management, school culture, social-emotional learning programs, district policies and procedures
  • Ability to receive, internalize, and implement feedback from multiple sources
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district
  • Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone
  • Ability to analyze data and generate reports
  • Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Light Work: may require occasional light lifting. Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required. Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location. Moderate travel is required.
