About the Role

The Dean of the School of Education will provide visionary, collaborative, and forward-thinking leadership to advance the School’s mission. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will foster high-quality academic programs, prioritize student success, support faculty and staff, and enhance partnerships with community stakeholders. The role includes overseeing the Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center (SRI & ETTC), ensuring fiscal health, and diversifying revenue through grants, fundraising, and programming.

The School of Education prepares pre-service and in-service educators for licensure, requiring continuous national accreditation (AAQEP) and compliance with state and federal regulations. The Dean will work closely with faculty, staff, and collective bargaining units to position the School strategically, including program and personnel activities. The Dean also serves on the Dean’s Council and the Provost’s Academic Affairs Council and oversees the Elizabeth Elmore Center for Economic Development and Financial Literacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic intellectual leadership and vision for the School of Education.
• Foster high-quality academic programs and prioritize student academic success.
• Develop and support faculty and staff, including those in a unionized environment.
• Oversee the operation of the SRI & ETTC, ensuring fiscal health and integration with university activities.
• Diversify revenue through programming, continuing education, community partnerships, grants, and fundraising.
• Manage the School’s fiscal and physical resources effectively.
• Ensure compliance with national accreditation (AAQEP) and state/federal reporting regulations for licensure programs.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to further a shared strategic vision.
• Establish and enhance partnerships with community stakeholders to increase enrollment in undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Partner closely with the Stockton Center on Community Engagement and Service-Learning.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in education or a related field.
• A minimum of three (3) years of significant and varied academic leadership experience closely related to areas of Deans’ responsibilities.
• Eligible for appointment as Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of a successful record of programmatic assessment or accreditation experience.
• Scholarly background and/or interdisciplinary research in Education, Human Development, Instructional Technology, or Leadership.
• Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with proven success in promoting an inclusive and collaborative teaching and learning environment.
• Demonstrated success supporting a teacher-scholar model of faculty development.
• Understanding and appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Demonstrated success supporting a school or similarly-sized academic unit with a commitment to shared governance, open communication, and collaboration in a unionized environment.
• Track record of leadership in support of student success.

Skills

• Working knowledge of licensure, certification, and accredited programs, including state and federal processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership to advance a shared strategic vision.
• Proven ability to secure external programmatic funding and establish internal/external partnerships that benefit the institution, student learning, and the community.

Pay

Salary range: $175,000 - $185,000.

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
