Responsibilities
- Aids in establishing high standards of conduct for students
- Improves student attendance and discipline
- Reports illegal activities to authorities
- Covers for other deans during school events
- Confers with students and parents on security matters
- Coordinates with outside organizations and agencies
- Assists in developing and implementing campus control and security practices
- Patrols buildings and grounds
Student Assessment
- Investigates student complaints and grievances
- Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations
- Adjudicates and monitors minor infractions of the school code
- Suspends students from school according to policy and law
- Facilitates student/teacher reentry meetings and provides Peer Mediation
- Maintains disciplinary records as required
- Presents the school’s case in due process proceedings for suspension and expulsion
- Provides ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress
- Completes all reports in a timely manner
Learning Environment
- Create and manage a responsive learning environment
- Establish, model, practice, and reinforce age-appropriate rules and discipline
- Ensure smooth operation of all classroom instructional functions
Student and Extracurricular Activities
- Create a sense of community and belonging for students
- Establish connections and relationships among students and the larger community
Student Support & School Culture
- Communicate with parents and teachers on student attendance
- Investigate attendance issues
- Assign appropriate consequences for truancy
- Advise students and parents on improving attendance
- Oversee student attendance records
- Compare information with other records for verification
- Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
- Develop, involve, and assist students in the creation, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolios
- Oversee and assist with student arrival/dismissal
- Model citizenship, collaboration, and support within the school community
- Counsel individual students and, when necessary, make appropriate referrals for testing, guidance, or psychological counseling
Pay Transparency
The salary range for this role is $62,500 - $97,500. Base pay offered may vary within the posted range based on several factors, including but not limited to education, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
Academic & Certification Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Work Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of urban teaching experience required
- Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred
- Working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology preferred
- Strong written, grammatical, presentation, and verbal communication skills required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required to develop rubrics, examine data, and metrics that enhance student knowledge and promote superior work products
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a diverse team of teachers and administrators
- Knowledge of childhood development and demonstrated experience with executing planned lessons to meet the differential needs of each child preferred
