Dean of Libraries
Salary Range
$104,498 to $144,307 annually (depending on experience).
Position Summary
The Dean provides strong advocacy and strategic leadership for student instructional and support programs and professional development for all college employees, through skilled administrative facilitation of the Libraries (main campus and three co-locations), Learning Support Network and Faculty Professional Development at Seattle Central College. The library staff includes librarians, classified staff, and hourly employees. The Learning Support Network (LSN) offers academic support to all students in person and remotely. The Director of LSN supervises classified staff members and hourly employees. The position is responsible for directing, organizing, and managing all division employees, resources, programs and services, and serving as their advocate. The Dean is expected to collaborate across instructional divisions and the college to provide outstanding service in these areas, and to support student centeredness and collaborative governance amongst employees within the libraries. This position supervises Exempt, Faculty, Classified, Student, Work Study, and temporary employees.
Schedule
This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily from 9am-5pm. This position works 100% of the time on-site.

What You Will Be Working On
Leadership for Library, Learning Support Network, and Professional Development
- Support the college's mission through anti-racist student-centered services and instruction.
- Provide leadership for maintaining a Teaching and Learning Center with a focus on inclusive pedagogical excellence across all programs of the college.
- Lead and support a collegewide approach to professional development through needs assessment, advocacy, grant writing and planning, coordination, and collaboration.
- Provide support for Development Day, a quarterly professional development opportunity for all employees.
- Facilitate the college's Professional Development Committee to equitably, transparently, and systematically disperse the college's professional development funds to promote learning that meets the needs of diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Serve as the college's copyright officer.
Advocacy & Planning
- Advocate for the libraries, faculty professional development, and Learning Support Network through strategic planning, development, and maintenance of the division functions.
- Advocate for sufficient funding to ensure library spaces and collections that encourage knowledge of, respect for, and development of, skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
- Securing funding, staffing, and other resources to support the optimal functioning of the division.
- Coordinate and support the college's ongoing and emerging professional development offerings to meet needs and to deepen cultural competence and antiracism.
Administration & Supervision
- Prepare and administer annual budgets for all unit departments.
- Manage the preparation of accreditation documentation and reports related to unit departments.
- Create safe, bias-free learning and work environments for staff, faculty, and students in areas related to unit departments.
- Develop policies and procedures for all unit departments that align with college and district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and state and federal laws.
- Support collaborative decision making amongst faculty and staff of unit departments.
- Contribute to institutional service that supports the college's mission, values, core themes, and strategic plans.
Outreach & Collaboration
- Advance and advocate for strategic priorities of the college as well as unit departments by serving on internal, district, and external councils, committees, professional organizations, and task forces.
- Participating in local, regional, and state professional organizations and representing the college's interest as appropriate.
- Collaborate with district eLearning and IT to recognize and address the teaching and learning needs of students, faculty, and staff in digital and in-person environments.
- Participate in other college activities and governance through committee work.
- Collaborate across various departments on campus and across all three Seattle Colleges; building collaborative channels with libraries and other areas with North and Central campuses.
Instruction & Curriculum
- Guide and support the development and delivery of the college's information literacy instruction program in collaboration with library faculty.
- Support the development of accessible online, hybrid, and self-paced course offerings/initiatives, related policies and procedures and program promotion.

What You Bring as a Candidate
Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience.
- ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS); OR related master's degree.
- Higher education leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success in change management, planning, and advocacy applicable to a complex environment, such as one that includes the library and tutoring.
- Demonstrated ability to support, develop, and apply antiracist strategies in an environment that affirms anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated ability to support consensus building and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to support strategies responsive to historically underrepresented or marginalized populations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated success in managing personnel, budgets, services, or information technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment.
