The Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its Dean. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership that advances the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the college, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership that advances the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Lead development and implementation of the College's strategic plan while identifying emerging opportunities that position the College for national distinction.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Represent the College within the University and to local, national, and international stakeholders.
- Sustain and build productive relationships with veterinary organizations, industry, government agencies, alumni, donors, philanthropic partners, and the community.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across Long Island University.
- Champion a culture of inclusion and well-being throughout the College community.
- Ensure achievement of all standards for accreditation.
- Lead preparation for accreditation reviews and reporting.
- Foster a culture of continuous assessment and quality improvement.
- Utilize educational analytics and performance metrics to guide strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with all university, state, and federal requirements.
- Lead recruitment, development, mentorship, and retention of a world-class faculty.
- Enable faculty success in teaching, scholarship, leadership, innovation, and clinical excellence.
- Encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
- Support professional development and leadership development opportunities.
- Foster a collegial culture that values collaboration, transparency, integrity, and shared governance.

- Expand opportunities for experiential and distributive clinical education.
- Promote translational research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Position LCVM as a national leader in veterinary educational innovation.
- Partner with University Advancement to increase philanthropic support.
- Cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, foundations, corporations, and other friends of the College.
- Serve as the primary ambassador for the College.
- Enhance the College's visibility, reputation, and national influence.
- Promote partnerships that support education, research, innovation, and community engagement.
- Establish a culture of accountability and provide responsible stewardship of College resources.
- Develop and manage strategic and operational budgets.
- Ensure effective planning, resource allocation, and organizational effectiveness.
- Led recruitment and development of administrative leaders.
- Promote operational excellence and continuous organizational improvement.
- Work effectively with University Support Services.
Qualifications
- DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
- Eligibility for appointment as a tenured Professor.
- Record of distinguished academic achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Significant senior leadership experience in veterinary medical education or a comparable academic environment.
- Demonstrated success leading complex organizations through strategic planning and organizational growth.
- Experience with accreditation and continuous quality improvement.
- Strong record of faculty development and mentorship.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership and shared governance.
