Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS) is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English, History, Mathematics, and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12. About the Role
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks a Dean of Curriculum & Program, History (Grades 9-12), to join our community beginning the 2026-2027 school year. This position reports directly to the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction and oversees two major administrative areas: leadership of the high school history department and administration of Learning Community R.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement history departmental curriculum, including units, lessons, and assessments.
- Plan and conduct professional development activities and meeting strands.
- Develop course assessments with teachers to diagnose student needs and inform curriculum and instruction improvements through data analysis.
- Implement a system of benchmarks and assessments to indicate student proficiencies in the history curriculum frameworks and learning expectations.
- Establish a system to teach and assess the history department’s school-wide learning expectations in each course and across the sequence of courses.
- Embed SAT content and format into the curriculum.
- Establish departmental rubrics for grading and levels of proficiency.
- Support AVID implementation of instructional strategies in history courses.
- Prepare the course catalog and review coherence and sequence of courses through a quality-review process.
- Schedule, supervise, and evaluate history faculty.
- Oversee placement of intern and observation students.
- Coordinate exhibits of teacher and student work.
- Administer all MCAS, PSAT, and SAT in Learning Community R.
- Handle related departmental administrative duties, including budget and textbook inventory.
- Collaborate with fellow administrators to advance school-wide goals and facilitate the transition of students from middle to high school curriculum and instruction.
- Oversee duties related to the administration of Learning Community R, including supervision of faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students and student support staff to support student achievement.
- Build an effective learning community climate and culture to support the overall school mission.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience as a successful teacher and/or administrator, preferably in an urban secondary school setting.
- Significant experience in the development of history curriculum and program and in collaborative professional development with adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
- Master’s Degree in Education or higher.
- Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal 9-12 Supervisor/Director certification required.
Schedule
This is a 40-hour per week, 11-month position.
