Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Children's Services, Davidson County

Full-time, 2nd shift position with a 5% shift differential pay. This position is not available for regular remote work and requires a criminal background check.

Pay

  • Monthly: $4,672.00 - $5,844.00
  • Annually: $56,064.00 - $70,128.00

About the Role

This classification is responsible for professional case management supervisory work of average difficulty. It is the first full supervisory class in the DCS Case Manager job series. An employee in this role supervises staff providing case management services for children under the State's supervision, in State custody, or at risk of State custody, and their families.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related behavioral science field with a child or family focus and three years of full-time professional child welfare case work experience, including:
    • Social, psychological, or correctional counseling or case management;
    • Volunteer services coordination for a children's service program; and/or
    • Juvenile classification coordination.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree and five years of full-time professional child welfare case work experience, including the areas listed above.

Special Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age on the date of application;
  • Must be a U.S. citizen;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to and during employment;
  • Must have a good moral character, as determined by investigation;
  • Must complete a criminal history disclosure form;
  • Must have no conviction for a felony;
  • Must agree to release all criminal history records to the appointing authority;
  • Must supply a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check;
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening test for illegal drugs.

Driver Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license;
  • No DUI, reckless driving, or license suspension for moving violations in the past five years;
  • No more than 4 moving violations in the past five years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist case managers in determining abuse or neglect, risk or harm to the child, need for a safety plan, and recommendations regarding permanency, reunification, and/or termination of parental rights.
  • Assess underlying family needs to address key safety issues and review cases for closure or transfer based on policy requirements.
  • Assign cases and provide performance feedback to subordinates, including professional development or corrective action.
  • Analyze data, response times, and compliance metrics (e.g., Child and Family Team Meetings, placement reports, EPSDT, dental, face-to-face visits) using tools like SharePoint and Excel.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., Child Protective Services Investigative Team, Foster Care Review Board) to inform case planning decisions.
  • Interpret policies and procedures for staff, community partners, and clients, and guide subordinates in case decision-making.
  • Conduct case conferences to provide guidance on safety, permanency, and well-being for clients.
  • Ensure subordinates follow policy guidelines for case documentation and meet completion requirements.
  • Review and monitor subordinate assessments to ensure quality case management.
  • Document discussions with staff, including Employee Performance Briefings (EPBs) and case conferences.
  • Track and report regional data to ensure state and federal compliance, including assessments and time frames.
  • Ensure accurate information is provided to internal and external entities (e.g., courts).
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and after hours, to schedule appointments, meetings, and visitations.
  • Transport children to appointments, assist with placement preparation, and support children awaiting placement.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, providers, and co-workers to build trust and explain rights/documents.
  • Make referrals to service providers, collaborate with law enforcement, and train foster/adoptive parents and community members.
