About the role
WHSV-TV in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley is looking for a high-energy, digital-first storyteller to join our award-winning "Daybreak" team. As our "New This Morning" Reporter, you won't just be reading the news; you'll be the first voice our viewers hear, setting the tone for their day across TV, social media, and our growing streaming platforms.
Responsibilities
- Produce and anchor our "New This Morning" segment in our Daybreak newscasts, which air live from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m., delivering the most critical overnight updates with urgency and personality.
- Break down longer-form national stories into "snackable" segments on "Daybreak."
- Anchor your own dedicated streaming morning show, Daybreak+, reaching our audience wherever they are watching.
- Drive digital engagement by posting and interacting on social and digital platforms as news breaks overnight.
- Shoot, write, edit, and present content that is conversational, informative, and visually engaging for a multi-platform world.
- Prepare a story during the second half of your day that will air the following day for "Daybreak."
- Collaborate with the "Daybreak" producer/anchor and meteorologist to ensure seamless and superior morning coverage.
- Uphold the standards of a station recently named a finalist for "Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias."
- Fill in on producing and anchoring the newscast when the primary producer/anchor is out.
Requirements
- A morning-person mindset: ready to start at 3:30 AM with a positive attitude and a sense of urgency.
- Digital-first approach: understanding that news happens on phones and tablets just as much as on TVs.
- Anchoring ambition: presence and confidence to lead a live streaming show and connect authentically with a digital audience.
- Journalistic experience: a degree in journalism or communications (or equivalent experience) and at least one year of newsroom experience is preferred.
- Technical versatility: comfort with basic editing and digital posting tools, or the ability to learn quickly.
- Community focus: passion for telling stories that matter to the people of the Shenandoah Valley.

Pay
$18.00 - $18.50/hr.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 3:30 am - 1:30 pm (or as dictated by news and staffing needs)
