Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive instruction on the theory and practice of phlebotomy, including venipuncture, capillary collection, and specimen handling.
- Instruct on relevant anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and basic laboratory skills.
- Supervise and guide students during hands-on practice in a lab, demonstrating and ensuring students master proper techniques for blood collection, patient identification, infection control, and safety.
- Evaluate student competency through a variety of methods, including practical skills assessments, quizzes, and provide constructive feedback to help students improve their technique.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and lab, uphold professional and ethical standards, and model positive and professional patient interaction skills.
- Foster a positive learning atmosphere that helps students build confidence and address any anxieties related to performing blood draws.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent, hands-on clinical experience as a phlebotomist or in a related healthcare role (e.g., Medical Assistant, RN, LPN).
- A current and valid phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
- Strong communication, instructional, and classroom management skills.
- The ability to teach and motivate adult learners with varying skill levels is crucial.
- A background clearances: Must be able to obtain and maintain current PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Background Check, and PA Child Abuse History.
