Responsibilities

• Display a congenial, warm acceptance for all individuals
• Interact constantly with individuals to develop a sense of security and belonging
• Support and supervise individuals visiting the assigned program
• Interpret Agency policies and program to individuals, other Day Habilitation Specialists, and the community
• Remain alert to expressions of attitudes, feelings, and relationships of each individual
• Develop awareness of individual needs through observation, interaction, study of case history, and consultation with other staff
• Keep records of pertinent observations and impressions about the group and individual behavior
• Form meaningful relationships and help each individual make the most of their day at program
• Manage everyday living matters including personal cleanliness of individuals, and cleanliness of program areas, furniture, supplies, and habilitation activities
• Provide a solid program of constructive and interesting activities
• Know and protect individual rights
• Maintain control of individuals within the program in a discreet and non-threatening manner
• Keep accurate records pertaining to day-to-day program operations
• Record and report any unusual or bizarre behaviors or incidents

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years experience in the I/DD field OR a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field and 1 year experience in the I/DD field
• Familiarity with IRA regulations relative to residential habilitation
• Proficient in computer applications
• Clean and valid NY, NJ CT, or PA driver's license with 6 points or less
• Maintain all certifications including but not limited to: First aid, CPR, and SCIP

Pay

• $19.00/hour (+ education additive: $0.15/hour for Associate's Degree, $0.80/hour for Bachelor's or higher)
• $20.00/hour after 6 months
