Day Camp Jr. Counselor (Under 18 years old)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Take part as a leader to youth in regard to their daily class rotation and field trips.
• Aid as directed with set-up, registration time, opening, closing and clean-up.
• Understand that the overall theme of the Day Camp will have a Christian emphasis.
• Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.
• Attend the orientation prior to the start of Day Camp, debriefing and the final musical program.
• Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

• Directly supervised by the Day Camp Director.
• In the absence of the Day Camp Director, supervised by the Assistant Day Camp Director or Youth Development Director.

Performance Measurements

• Evaluation based on achieving outcomes and completing assigned goals.

Education/Experience

• Completed the 9th grade.
• At least 15 years of age.
• Experience working with children preferred.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.
• Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
• Attention to detail.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
• A commitment to the mission of the Salvation Army.

Position Limitations

• Commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
• Inform the Day Camp Director of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Required to do moderate physical work.
• Moderate physical work includes lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Must be able to remain stationary for some periods of time.
• Use hands and fingers.
• Communicate.
• Move.
• Reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.
• Low to high noise level.
• Specific vision abilities required include vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
