Day Camp Counselor
About the role
The Day Camp Counselor’s role is to provide a safe, fun, and caring environment for children enrolled in the Summer Day Camp program. Counselors are responsible for leading the group of children in assigned activities and implementing procedures. The Day Camp Counselor supports the Learning Zone & Day Camp Coordinator, the Music & Arts Specialist, and the Recreation Specialist in creating and developing weekly programming for the youth participants. The Day Camp Counselor serves as a chaperone during off-site field trips.
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, fun, and caring environment for children enrolled in the Summer Day Camp program.
- Lead the group of children in assigned activities and implement procedures.
- Support the Learning Zone & Day Camp Coordinator, Music & Arts Specialist, and Recreation Specialist in creating and developing weekly programming for the youth participants.
- Serve as a chaperone during off-site field trips.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age and experience working with children.
- Be reliable and dependable.
- Work schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs.
Qualifications
- Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks:
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Police Criminal Record Check
- PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check
- In addition, completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
- Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
