Database Specialist (5-10 years of experience)

Sectra is dedicated to contributing to a healthier and safer society. As a Database Specialist, you will serve as the senior database subject matter expert within our Cloud Operations team. Your responsibilities include troubleshooting, investigating, and resolving complex SQL Server performance, availability, and database administration issues. You will also partner with various teams to ensure timely resolution of high-priority customer escalations.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve advanced SQL Server performance, availability, and database administration issues across both on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments.
- Partner with Cloud Operations, Support, Deployment, and other technical teams to drive timely resolution of high-priority customer escalations.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the organization, serving as a trusted database expert.
- Develop and deliver technical training, documentation, and best practices related to SQL Server administration and troubleshooting.
- Identify recurring technical challenges and recommend process improvements, automation opportunities, and preventative solutions.
- Support complex customer implementations, upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery planning, and database maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Development to investigate software defects, validate fixes, and support product improvements.
- Create and maintain internal knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to Service Enablement initiatives that improve operational efficiency, technical readiness, and cross-functional knowledge sharing.
- Stay current on Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL technologies, clustering, high availability, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Five to ten years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments, with at least five years of SQL Server administration experience required.
- Strong experience troubleshooting SQL Server performance, query optimization, indexing, backups, restores, replication, and high availability solutions.
- Experience supporting databases hosted both on-premises and within Microsoft Azure environments.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Experience supporting production environments and serving as an escalation resource for complex technical issues.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor teammates and contribute to a collaborative technical culture.
- Microsoft SQL Server certification or Azure Database Administrator Associate certification is preferred.
Qualifications
- Location: Supports customers across the Mountain and Pacific time zones. Candidates located within approximately one hour of our Denver, Colorado office are expected to work a hybrid schedule, with three days per week in the office. Candidates located outside of this area may work remotely while supporting the required time zones.

Pay
$100,000 to $130,000, with the final offer based on experience, skills, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

This position supports customers across the Mountain and Pacific time zones. Candidates located within approximately one hour of our Denver, Colorado office are expected to work a hybrid schedule, with three days per week in the office.
