Database Engineer IV

Overview Byte Systems, a subsidiary of VTG, is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Database Engineer. The selected candidate will work within a Production Operations team supporting data management processes, database engineering and management, deploying, maintaining, tuning, and enhancing database systems. This position is 100% on‑site.

Responsibilities

• Database engineering and management activities associated with high‑volume, multi‑format data management services.
• Maintain large‑scale data management solutions, including developing efficient storage, indexing, and access approaches.
• Update data enterprise architecture models (if needed) and data abstraction layer to enable access to new data sources.
• Design and implement indexing strategies for ingested data.
• Develop a strategy for continuous performance tuning of databases.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL, and database performance tuning.
• Experience installing application software in an operational environment.
• Experience with Agile, AWS, RDBMS technology, Elasticsearch, and Linux.
• DoD IAT Level II certification.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with ability to obtain a polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NoSQL technology (Hadoop and/or EMR).
• Familiarity with graph database technology.
• Data modeling experience.

Pay

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $180,000‑$230,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
