Database Engineer II

Reflexive Concepts is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join our team! Specifically, the DEFSMAC team is seeking a Database Engineer with experience in PostgreSQL and PostGIS. This position requires an in-scope polygraph (within 7 years). For qualified candidates, the labor category level for this position may be flexible. Key Responsibilities Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, indexes, and queries for performance and scalabilityMonitor and tune database performance using native tools and custom scriptsImplement and maintain high availability (HA) and replication strategiesCollaborate with developers to refine complex queries and stored proceduresAutomate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python)Document database architecture, processes, and best practices Qualifications: Five (5) years experience as a DBE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexityBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or universityFive (5) years of additional DBE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree Required: Experience with PostgreSQL and PostGISStrong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning and query optimizationProficiency in Linux/Unix environments and CLI tools like psqlExperience with logical and physical replication, partitioning, and backup strategiesFamiliarity with monitoring tools (e.g., pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana)Knowledge of scripting languages for automation and toolingIn-scope polygraph within 7 years Desired: Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL)Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)Exposure to other RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, MySQL) or NoSQL systems
