Database Engineer

About the Role

BigBear.ai is seeking a Database Engineer (DBE) to join our team and support the development and operation of advanced capabilities in space domain awareness and geolocation. This role involves working on complex, processing-intensive systems that handle massive data sets in real-time environments, leveraging RF signal processing and geospatial analytics. An active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop databases, supporting information storage and retrieval activities.
• Analyze and evaluate system improvements, optimization, development, and maintenance efforts.
• Define long- and short-term requirements for database administration and design.
• Translate requirements and data into usable database schemas by creating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; update existing queries and create new ones to manipulate data into master files.
• Develop database parser software, database loading software, and database structures that fit into the overall system architecture.
• Innovate with SDR technologies by building and refining applications that ingest and analyze radio frequency data to detect, characterize, and track objects or signals in the space domain.
• Develop novel algorithms, analytics, visualization, and discovery tools that enable precise geolocation and actionable insights.
• Ensure interoperability by integrating new and legacy software across diverse hardware platforms.
• Drive system design decisions, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse strategies, and the incorporation of COTS and GOTS solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university (five years of additional DBE experience may substitute for a degree).
• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance (required).
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases, including Oracle, Postgres, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Proficiency in SQL and associated tools (e.g., SQL Developer).
• Ability to support the development of long- and short-term requirements for database administration and design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Elasticsearch and its integration into database systems.
