Key Responsibilities
- Support the migration of existing SQL Server databases from an end-of-life hosted platform to a new hosted platform.
- Perform database migration, validation, and post-migration testing to ensure databases are functioning correctly in the new environment.
- Provide day-to-day break/fix and incident response support for the SQL Server environment.
- Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server databases across multiple versions, including SQL Server 2008-2019.
- Perform database architecture, configuration, performance troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Manage database backup and recovery processes, including production database backup, restore, and recovery activities.
- Execute database restores and recovery procedures when required.
- Support database updates, maintenance activities, and other operational changes.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues and identify root causes in a production environment.
- Validate database connectivity, functionality, performance, and application dependencies following migrations or infrastructure changes.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and project teams during migration and remediation activities.
- Provide operational coverage and support to help free the dedicated DBA from day-to-day production support so they can focus on project and migration work.
- Document database changes, migration activities, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures.
- Provide support for a small Oracle database footprint as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server database administration.
- Experience migrating databases between hosted platforms, servers, or infrastructure environments.
- Experience performing post-migration database and systems validation.
- Strong understanding of SQL Server architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with database backup, restore, and recovery management.
- Hands-on experience backing up and restoring production databases.
- Experience providing database break/fix and incident response support in a production environment.
- Experience working with multiple SQL Server versions, preferably including SQL Server 2008 through 2019.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an operational environment while supporting concurrent migration projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle database administration.
- Experience supporting SQL Server environments hosted on dedicated database/performance hardware platforms.
- Experience with end-of-life hardware replacement or database infrastructure migration projects.
- Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience supporting high-availability or production-critical database environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise incident, change, backup, and recovery processes.
