About the role
The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is seeking a Data Strategy Advisor to join the Bureau of Energy and Technology Policy (BETP) in New Britain, CT. The successful candidate will manage presentations and analyses for key stakeholders, build data sets for policy analysis, and draft strategic communications documents.
Responsibilities
- Manage all presentations and analyses shared with the Governor’s office, the legislature, and other critical stakeholders;
- Build data sets that can be leveraged for policy analysis and recommendations;
- Create graphics and presentations that simplify extremely complex energy concepts and data;
- Identify opportunities for internal process improvement;
- Draft strategic communications documents for internal and external audiences;
- Manage external consultants to develop high quality work products;
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- 3+ years of work experience, with a combination of advanced modeling and presentation skills;
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
- Experience working cross-functionally, both within an organization and with external partners;
- Experience working in policy (government or otherwise);
- Experience with advanced data analysis tools (Stata, PowerBI, Python, etc.);
- Ability to travel to Hartford 1-2 days a week;
- Ability to commute to New Britain, CT once a week.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have the ability to be able to travel to New Britain and Hartford one to two days per week as business needs require.

Proactive and action-oriented, demonstrates a strong ability to take initiative and drive projects forward. Comfortable working with data, analysis, and presentations, and possesses strong listening skills coupled with a willingness to ask thoughtful questions to gain a thorough understanding of complex topics. An interest in energy policy and a desire to contribute to meaningful work are highly valued, regardless of direct industry experience.

This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, Monday - Friday, and 40 hours per week with the potential for telework.
