DATA SCIENTIST SUPERVISOR

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, supervise, manage, and evaluate highly technical and complex data science projects from inception to implementation, ensuring objectives and desired outcomes are achieved.
• Assign and review the work of data scientists and analysts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with business needs; maintain and update section products and services as necessary.
• Collaborate with IT groups and program managers to identify business needs and strategic issues; recommend and implement enhancements to existing systems or new data engineering, modeling, and science solutions.
• Define the overall vision and strategy for data analytics across the organization in conjunction with governance boards and executive committees.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate divisional/departmental initiatives and operational objectives using big data; advocate for measurability in strategic planning and operations.
• Evaluate, manage, and participate in all aspects of solution development, including quality assurance, data set maintenance, exploratory data analysis, model creation/testing/deployment, and consultation with program managers.
• Direct the development of technical reports, dashboards, data briefs, white papers, and advanced data visualization tools.
• Work with IT data engineers and architects to develop and maintain large-scale databases that meet high standards for completeness, accuracy, and utility; supervise and participate in quality control of ETL processes for structured, unstructured, and streaming data.
• Advise managers on opportunities and gaps in data science technology and infrastructure; recommend growth plans through adoption of new methods and technologies.
• Build machine learning solutions to address complex business problems, derive actionable insights, and maximize decision-making confidence.
• Stay current with data science best practices; mentor staff and ensure ongoing training and professional development.
• Serve as a technical resource for managers on data-driven program design and the translation of data science into improved business outcomes and efficiency.

Requirements

• Two years of experience leading the development and application of advanced statistical prediction, inference, and optimization methods to support data-driven decision-making, equivalent to the Los Angeles County class of Senior Data Scientist.
• Valid California Class C Driver License or ability to use alternative transportation for job-related essential functions.
• Physical ability to perform light administrative and clerical duties, including occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds), bending, stooping, or squatting, with considerable ambulation.

Qualifying experience may be from a different job title if responsibilities, skills, and organizational structure are comparable. Provide a clear explanation of your experience to demonstrate equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience applying data science methods within healthcare-related projects, including work with HIPAA-covered protected health information.
