Data Scientist, North Insights
About Us
Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products designed to solve real-world business problems. We train and deploy frontier models for enterprises building AI systems. Our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI, and we are looking for individuals who want to be part of that mission.
We obsess over what we build. Each team member contributes to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin, and Seoul.
About the Role
We're building the foundational infrastructure that will define how the world thinks about and deploys AI. As a Data Scientist on our Analytics and Data Insights team, you'll tackle problems without textbook answers. You'll build analytics that shape product and company strategy, design experiments to validate our biggest bets, and help enterprise customers understand the impact of foundational AI on their bottom line.
You'll own analytical work end-to-end: from framing the right questions and building models to shipping insights, tools, and results relied upon by product leaders, sales teams, and enterprise customers.
Responsibilities
- Drive the mission forward by building bleeding-edge agentic analytics, addressing unsolved problems in the field.
- Define AI impact measurement by owning the end-to-end analytics story around adoption, growth, and impact for leadership prioritization.
- Ship customer-facing analytics that enterprise customers recognize as evidence of value created.
- Build small language models to categorize, classify, and enrich message data, providing visibility into product usage.
- Design and run experiments, including A/B tests, causal inference studies, and opportunity sizing, directly mapping to product and go-to-market decisions.
- Develop and deploy predictive models for forecasting, segmentation, propensity scoring, and opportunity sizing across Cohere's core business lines.
- Act like an owner: define analytical priorities, push initiatives from question to production, and own what you build.
Qualifications
- Strong command of SQL, Python, and Git, alongside expertise in statistical inference, experimental design, and predictive modeling.
- Proven ability to turn ambiguous business questions into rigorous analytical problems with clear, compelling recommendations.
- Experience building and deploying production models, not just notebook analysis.
- Familiarity with modern data stack tools such as BigQuery, dbt, Looker, or Airflow (nice to have, not essential).
- Genuine excitement about AI: you follow the research, have opinions, and enjoy being in the weeds.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, managing multiple workstreams across stakeholders, and distilling insights into concise, actionable narratives.
- A collaborative style grounded in empathy as much as in data; you work alongside product, research, sales, and finance, not in a silo.
If some of the above doesn't line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
