About the role

Join Amgen’s Data Science team at the Ohio site and partner with functions including DTI, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Automation, Engineering, Warehouse, Quality, and Process Development. This role focuses on developing and maintaining reporting and data products, building scalable data pipelines, supporting advanced analytics and machine learning solutions, and identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation. The successful candidate will act as a cross-functional technical partner, translating business and operational needs into practical, scalable data and digital solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain real-time and summary reports, dashboards, and data products for AOH functional teams and site leadership.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define key performance metrics across safety, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, and operational performance.
  • Extract, integrate, and analyze data from systems such as SAP, MES, LIMS, PI Data Historian, and IIoT platform.
  • Build scalable and reusable data pipelines using Databricks, SQL, Python, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Apply statistical analysis, simulation, and machine learning to manufacturing and operational challenges.
  • Support predictive maintenance, IIoT, computer vision, SmartVision model maintenance/retraining, and other advanced analytics use cases.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the AOH IIoT platform and support expansion of site IIoT capabilities.
  • Contribute to Digital Control Tower enhancements, including integration of real-time data, analytics, and GenAI capabilities.
  • Act as an internal consultant to identify process improvement, continuous improvement, and automation opportunities across the site.
  • Partner with DTI and external vendors to deliver validated and non-validated digital solutions.
  • Support requirements gathering, User Acceptance Testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of digital tools.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in data science, business, statistics, data mining, applied mathematics, business analytics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in the above fields with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Associate's degree in the above fields with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • OR High school diploma/GED with 8 years of relevant experience in data science, business, statistics, data mining, applied mathematics, business analytics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.

Skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
  • Experience with Databricks or similar cloud data and analytics platforms.
  • Experience building data pipelines and integrating data from multiple operational or enterprise systems.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, analytical tools, or data products.
  • Experience with large-scale data platforms such as data lakes, lakehouses, or data fabrics.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, machine learning, or predictive modeling.
  • Familiarity with IIoT, time-series data, predictive maintenance, computer vision, or manufacturing analytics.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI and emerging AI technologies.
  • Understanding of software engineering practices including version control, testing, and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions in a matrixed environment.
  • Manufacturing, biopharmaceutical, engineering, operations, or supply chain experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on data scientist who enjoys solving practical business and manufacturing problems. They should be comfortable working across data engineering, reporting, analytics, and applied machine learning, while partnering directly with site stakeholders. This role is well-suited to someone who combines strong technical skills with an internal consulting mindset and is motivated to use data, automation, IIoT, and AI to improve operational performance across the Amgen Ohio site.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted on the careers site. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
