About the role
Leads analysis of complex, high-impact business problems using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decisions at the leadership level. Works directly with aviation and in-flight entertainment data to identify domain-specific opportunities. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets, constructs forecasts, recommendations, and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Creates specifications for reports and analysis, provides consultation to users, and leads cross-functional teams. Sets direction for modeling approaches and mentors other data scientists on the team.
Responsibilities
- Build, own, and defend predictive, classification, forecasting, and recommendation models using Python to identify emerging trends and business opportunities from customer, operational, and market data.
- Independently determine the modeling approach and technique for a given problem.
- Partner with Data Engineering on data infrastructure needs, translating modeling and analytics requirements into scalable data sources.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge in ETL and Data Warehouse concepts; experience with AWS cloud-based platforms.
- Employ the established Data Governance model to sustain Data Quality and implement necessary operating mechanisms for compliance.
- Build fault-tolerant, self-healing, adaptive, and highly accurate data computational and analytic processing applications.
- Develop and/or use algorithms and ML prescriptive models to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcomes.
- Apply analytical rigor and statistical methods to analyze large datasets using advanced techniques such as predictive statistical models, customer profiling, segmentation analysis, survey design, and data mining.
- Partner with business process experts and owners to build BI and leading indicators of operational benchmarks.
- Mentor and guide the technical direction of junior data scientists, reviewing modeling approach and code for rigor and consistency.
- Partner with Data Engineering, Product, and Business stakeholders to define the roadmap and shape what should be built.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on Python and SQL skills for data science (pandas, scikit-learn, and similar).
- Experience with AWS suite or similar cloud environments and tools for Data Science, AI, and ML.
- Ability to deploy ML models to production environments.
- Solid grounding in statistics: hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design (A/B testing).
- Exposure to GenAI/LLM concepts (RAG, vector databases, prompt engineering) is a plus.
- Strong predictive and statistical modeling skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally to internal and external clients.
- Ability to work independently with business users and cross-functional leaders.
- Strong ability to create and deliver effective presentations to multiple audiences.
- Advanced expertise using data analytic software such as R, Python, SQL.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft productivity tools: Excel, Word, Visio, and other software.
- Ability to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Extract Transform Load (ETL) and Data Architecture preferred.
- Ability to mentor junior data scientists and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field required (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in modeling, forecasting, and data analytics.
- 2+ years of experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) or other cloud platforms.
- Open-source AI experience preferred.
- Data Science Certifications and AWS Cloud Certification preferred.
- Experience in aviation, transportation, or IoT/telemetry data domain is a plus.
May require travel up to 5% of the time to domestic and/or international locations.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $142,000 to $238,000. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.
