Data Scientist - Experienced to Expert Level (Maryland)
Responsibilities
Data science at the National Security Agency (NSA) involves using mathematics, statistics, computer science, and domain-specific knowledge to analyze and interpret data. Key responsibilities include:
- Exploring data analysis and model fitting to uncover meaningful insights
- Using machine-learned predictive models to forecast trends
- Constructing data sets from various sources to meet customer needs
- Identifying and analyzing anomalous data points
- Developing conceptual designs and models to address mission requirements
- Designing and developing analytics and techniques for data analysis
- Performing analytic modeling, scripting, and programming
- Collaborating with colleagues to iterate and refine solutions
- Communicating research processes, analyses, and results to stakeholders
- Creating interpretable visualizations of data
Qualifications
The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Applicants must pass the Data Science Examination (DSE) to be considered for selection into a data scientist position.
- Degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, etc., qualify without additional coursework or a Data Science certificate.
- Engineering, Physical Sciences, etc., require a Data Science certificate or specific coursework in advanced mathematics and computer science.
- Experience must include programming and one or more of the following: machine learning, data mining, statistical analysis, etc.
- Experience must also include formal or informal leadership.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Pay: Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position. Salary range: $132,751 - $197,200 (Senior, Expert).
- Benefits: Comprehensive package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
- Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, flexible hours between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
