About the role

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Enterprise Services, Workforce Care Directorate.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and oversees the implementation of advanced data classification, coding, storage, and retrieval systems, ensuring optimal data integrity, security, accessibility, and interoperability across the agency.
  • Designs, executes, and interprets complex simulations, optimization models, and predictive analytics to provide critical insights and directly inform high-level agency decision-making policy formulation.
  • Advises and develops innovative strategies on measurement of the design, development, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of large-scale projects to analyze programmatic data and forecast the effects of alternative courses of actions and programmatic gaps.
  • Provides expert guidance, advanced mentorship, and comprehensive on-the-job training to junior data scientists, analysts, and other professionals, significantly contributing to the development of the agency's analytical capabilities.

  • GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
    • Extracting, processing, and integrating large-scale structured and unstructured datasets from multiple sources, including performing data cleaning, validation, transformation, and applying data governance and data quality assurance techniques to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
    • Analyzing organization-wide or multi-program data to identify trends, assess program impacts, and develop data-driven recommendations that support administrative, programmatic, or financial decision making.
    • Collaborating with program offices or leadership to identify data-driven solutions to complex problems, providing technical guidance or advice on the use of data and models, and/or mentoring junior analysts in analytical methods, tools, or best practices.

Pay

This position starts at a salary of $125,776.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $163,514.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

Schedule

Negotiable after your selection. (Must report to a CBP Facility)

Skills

Expertise in computer theory, algorithms, data structures, programming concepts and languages, and computer architecture.
