About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Scientist to join our Consumer Data Science team. In this pivotal role, you will influence product strategy by proactively identifying opportunities, conducting exploratory analyses, and sharing actionable insights. Your work will directly impact Reddit's efforts to attract new users, enhance engagement, and improve retention. You will design and develop metrics to evaluate business health and product success, lead experimentation initiatives from conception to analysis, and build self-serve analytical tools for cross-functional teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to leave a significant mark on a rapidly growing platform, working remotely within the US or from one of our major offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Operations Research
- For M.S. holders: 10+ years of industry experience in applied science or data science roles
- For Ph.D. holders: 6+ years of industry experience in applied science or data science roles
- Expert knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and programming languages such as R and Python
- Strong ability to influence and guide product strategy through data insights
- Experience solving ambiguous problems with structured, hypothesis-driven approaches
- Familiarity with causal inference techniques and causal modeling
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders
- Entrepreneurial mindset, self-directed, and enthusiastic about problem solving
- Experience mentoring junior data scientists and sharing best practices
- Ability to adapt in fast-paced, innovative environments and prioritize action
- Strong capability to discuss complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences
Responsibilities
- Help shape the long-term product strategy by identifying opportunities to attract new users, increase engagement, and drive retention
- Provide data-driven insights to influence strategic roadmaps based on user behavior and needs analysis
- Design and implement metrics to evaluate business health and product success, including necessary ETL processes for consistent analysis
- Lead experimentation efforts from design through execution and analysis, maximizing learning and guiding future investments
- Create self-serve analytical tools for product and engineering teams to facilitate data access and literacy
- Collaborate across teams—including product, engineering, and design—to ensure insights are integrated into product development
- Mentor junior data scientists, improve data science processes, and contribute to scaling data practices within the organization
