About The Role

We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our team on a contract-to-hire basis until January 20, 2026. The successful candidate will work with a world-renowned sports organization to revolutionize basketball analytics through the development of advanced machine learning models. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply data science techniques to sports data, transforming raw information into actionable insights that enhance decision-making, improve player and team performance, and increase fan engagement. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure that models are accurate, scalable, and aligned with real-world game dynamics.

Qualifications

• Strong background in data science, machine learning, and statistical modeling
• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience working with large datasets
• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms
• Fundamental knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and analytics (highly desirable)
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
• Experience deploying models into production environments
• Exposure to streaming data technologies (advantageous)
• Prior experience in sports data projects (advantageous)

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine machine learning models to generate innovative basketball metrics and insights that can influence gameplay strategies and enhance fan experience.
• Collaborate with basketball analysts to ensure that models accurately reflect the nuances of real-world game dynamics and provide meaningful insights.
• Deploy models into scalable production environments, working with infrastructure teams to ensure robustness and efficiency.
• Create intuitive visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate complex data findings effectively to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Support ad hoc analytics projects by providing data-driven solutions and insights to address specific business questions or challenges.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and sports analytics to continuously improve models and methodologies.
