About the role

The Data Science Program Teaching Associate Professor is a 12-month, 100% appointed, non-tenure track position responsible for instruction and development of course materials for the undergraduate and future graduate Data Science Program. The role includes supporting academic advising for undergraduate and graduate data science students, assisting with summer orientation for future graduate students, and serving on college and university committees as appropriate. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is required, along with the ability to maintain collegial working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction for undergraduate and future graduate Data Science Program courses.
  • Assist with the development of course materials and the Data Science Program course sequence.
  • Support academic advising for undergraduate and graduate data science students.
  • Assist with summer orientation for future graduate data science students.
  • Serve on college and university committees as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or similar terminal degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, or closely related fields (e.g., computer science, statistics, operations research, industrial engineering) from an accredited institution of higher education; conferred by the start of employment.
  • Demonstrated effective experience teaching undergraduate and graduate data science, data analytics, or closely related courses at the third-year and fourth-year levels.
  • Experience with programming in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of sustained excellence in teaching and scholarship.
  • Recognition for teaching excellence at a regional or national level.
  • Ability and interest in developing graduate-level coursework in data science.

Skills

  • Commitment to supporting undergraduate and graduate data science students in developing their academic skills, particularly upper-level students.
