Data Science Platform Developer

This role is part of the Research & Development organization, focused on enabling and evolving enterprise data science capabilities. The team protects existing global data science environments, modernizes data science by onboarding practitioners to unified, cloud-based tooling, and continuously enhances data science and machine-learning tools to be more automated, scalable, and user-friendly.

About the role

This is a hybrid position requiring in-person work at an assigned TransUnion office location at least two days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Set requirements for Global Technology to support tools and frameworks used by analysts on distributed computing systems; participate in Global Technology projects as a subject-matter expert on machine learning and scientific computing.
  • Provide oversight and hands-on support for developing analytic solutions using R, Python, SQL, and Spark; formalize efforts into repeatable process improvements.
  • Lead new environment setup for data science teams, owning all aspects of projects from environment design to tool development, training, and global resource coordination.
  • Own data science requirements and tracking; identify strategies and opportunities to test and adopt TransUnion’s analytic products and services.
  • Interact directly with matrix partners, providing an analytic perspective and general support as needed.
  • Contribute to research and innovation initiatives; may lead small analytic research teams or manage research interns on a project basis.
  • Participate in interviewing and evaluating new talent, mentoring junior colleagues, and fostering a high-performance culture.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in statistics, applied mathematics, financial mathematics, computer science, engineering, operations research, or another highly quantitative field; or a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of academic excellence.
  • Advanced programming skills for front-end ML application design (Shiny, Dash, Streamlit) and ML workflows for HPC modeling.
  • Proficiency with statistical programs such as R and Python; workflow and distributed processing frameworks (MLflow, Targets, Prefect, Ray, Slurm).
  • Experience with other programming languages (C/C++, Scala, Java); knowledge of Nix is a plus.
  • Experience in genAI-powered machine learning, including agentic workflows, ontology designs, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) architectures.
  • Familiarity with foundational LLM infrastructure, including feature stores, vector databases, and RAG for real-time AI.
  • Ability to serve as a consultative first point of contact between data science practitioners and technology teams.
  • Experience designing human-in-the-loop AI workflows and leading complex, multi-resource ML platform projects.
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% of the time.

Pay

U.S. base salary range: $90,000 – $150,000 annually. Actual compensation is based on factors such as education, training, work experience, job-related skills, location, industry knowledge, scope and responsibilities of the position, and market considerations. Regular, full-time non-sales positions may be eligible for TransUnion’s annual bonus plan. Certain positions may also qualify for long-term incentives and other payments based on company guidance and plan documents.
