Compensation Overview

The hourly salary range for this position is a nationwide market range, ranging from $35.00 to $45.00. Actual hourly rates are determined by a variety of factors including the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?

The Data Science Leadership Development Program (DSLDP) internship aims to attract and develop self-motivated individuals with a passion for data science. It provides a foundation for future success within the organization and exposes interns to a challenging professional work experience in data science.

  • Interns will be exposed to various research groups within the company, including Bond & Specialty Insurance, Business Insurance Research & Development, Claim Business Intelligence & Analytics, Personal Insurance Research & Development, and other departments such as Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies.
  • Responsibilities include providing recommendations on projects, designing and building statistical models, analyzing data, and validating and manipulating data to ensure accuracy of metrics.
  • Interns will also participate in company-wide events and interact with leadership and management to gain insights into the organization and its operations.

What Will You Do?

Interns in the DSLDP program will receive a training curriculum focused on data science and business acumen, along with formal mentoring, networking, and career guidance.

  • Provide recommendations on projects involving data science-related concepts.
  • Design and build statistical models and analyses tailored to the business needs.
  • Identify, integrate, and structure complex data flows.
  • Identify new opportunities for analytic solutions.
  • Perform data analysis tasks and provide qualitative and quantitative data support to ensure accuracy of metrics.
  • Contribute to team efforts by working on other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Pursuing a Master’s or PhD level degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related analytical STEM field.
  • Applied statistical knowledge and experience solving real-world problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SAS, etc.
  • Strong track record of taking ownership and responsibility for actions and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in identifying problems, analyzing data, synthesizing information, and exploring alternative solutions.
  • Ability to remain focused and energized in the face of ambiguity, change, or strenuous demands.
  • Proven customer service skills with the ability to provide service excellence to internal or external clients.
  • Emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, empathy, and balance between confidence and humility.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with others positively.
  • Capability to exercise sound judgment, make decisions, and commit to a position.
  • Capacity to leverage differences and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to build, foster, and maintain productive relationships.
  • Teamwork and the ability to work collaboratively in situations where actions are interdependent.
  • A strong drive to succeed and a willingness to learn.

Must Have

  • Pursuing a Master’s or PhD level degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Actuarial Science, or a related analytical STEM field.
