About the role

Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s summer internship program offers Data Science students a 10–12 week immersive professional experience at one of our DOE or DoD sites. You will work alongside world-class engineers, scientists, researchers, and technicians on deliverables that directly support the U.S. Navy’s submarine and aircraft carrier fleets. The program runs May/June–August 2027 and may lead to return internships or full-time offers upon successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development using state-of-the-art techniques
  • Design, test, and integrate software, components, or systems
  • Develop models and perform data analysis
  • Support operations and help develop process controls and procedures

  • Meet directly with NNL General Manager and Executive Leadership

Required qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related engineering or science field from an accredited college or university
  • Must have completed at least the first full year of college by May 2027
  • Must remain enrolled/continuing in a degree program throughout the internship
  • Must attach most recent unofficial college transcripts and resume (including anticipated graduation date) to the application

Preferred skills

  • Cumulative minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Prior related internship, co-op, or work experience (paid or volunteer)
  • Experience with Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), or Naval Nuclear Program

Pay

$25.00–$42.50/hour (salary based on candidate experience, qualifications, and market considerations).
