Data Science and Engineering Manager
About the role
The successful candidate will lead complex, large-scale AI research initiatives in mental health contexts. They will manage a team of approximately 10 data scientists and software engineers, collaborating with the Clinical Project Manager and project leadership. This role requires strong project management expertise, technical fluency, and the ability to navigate complex research environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication
- Guide the team through the entire product development lifecycle
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including data scientists, AI engineers, software developers, clinical researchers, and external collaborators
- Achieve consensus around product vision and priorities
- Maintain alignment with project objectives and organizational goals
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and bottlenecks, and implement mitigation strategies
- Design and implement clinical validation and quality assurance testing for data generation, annotation workflows, and software development
- Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with privacy regulations
Requirements
- Master’s in Neuroscience, Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 8+ years experience in technical project management for software development, data science, or AI/ML research projects
- 8+ years of experience working regularly with software development lifecycle, data engineering, machine learning, or cloud computing concepts
- 5+ years of practical experience with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Notion, Jira, Kanban)
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis and data science fundamentals (e.g., algorithms, data structures, data visualization, machine learning)
- 5+ years of experience in at least one scientific programming language (e.g., Python/R, Matlab) and related toolboxes or frameworks (e.g., Tidyverse, Scipy, Sklearn, Polars, Pytorch)
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-phase projects in software development environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
