About Our Client

The organization operates in the global payment infrastructure sector, addressing the challenges of payment orchestration, compliance, and performance optimization for merchants and enterprises. It provides an AI-driven platform that supports intelligent routing, advanced tokenization, and enterprise-scale payment processing, enabling businesses to integrate payments faster and expand globally with confidence.

About the Opportunity

The Data Reliability Engineer will build and manage resilient data platforms essential to supporting the organization's global payment infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring the security, availability, and scalability of mission-critical data systems, working collaboratively across teams to automate operations and enhance platform reliability in cloud-native and hybrid environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated frameworks for database infrastructure management across multiple relational and non-relational technologies
  • Develop declarative Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and custom automations for end-to-end database lifecycle operations, including automated backups, zero-downtime upgrades, schema migrations, and disaster recovery validations
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and resilient distributed data architectures
  • Define, monitor, and maintain Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) specifically for the global data platforms
  • Engineer automated self-healing and rapid recovery solutions to continuously improve platform resilience and eliminate manual interventions
  • Monitor database health, telemetry, and query performance, proactively identifying and resolving optimization bottlenecks
  • Collaborate directly with software engineering teams to optimize complex queries, indexing strategies, and database access patterns
  • Implement security best practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), data encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging, and strict data governance policies
  • Lead high-severity incident response workflows and conduct thorough post-mortem root cause analysis (RCA) for database infrastructure anomalies
  • Develop clear technical documentation, operational playbooks, and automated runbooks to enhance engineering visibility and system reliability
  • Build orchestration automation to systematically reduce manual operational overhead (toil) and improve deployment consistency
  • Partner with security and engineering teams to enhance end-to-end observability, alerting thresholds, and platform deployment readiness
  • Participate actively in Agile planning ceremonies and promote continuous engineering and architectural improvements

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience operating in a Data Reliability Engineering (DRE), Database Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related cloud infrastructure engineering capacity
  • Highly proficient with enterprise-scale relational database engines, specifically Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
  • Hands-on experience scaling and managing distributed NoSQL data platforms, such as Azure Cosmos DB or similar document stores
  • Skilled in production-grade scripting and system automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or alternative modern languages
  • Practical experience with modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Terraform, OpenTofu, or cloud-native templates
  • Strong operational knowledge of enterprise observability stacks, telemetry aggregation, and dashboarding practices (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor)
  • Systems administration support experience covering both Linux distribution and Windows Server environments
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills to isolate and resolve complex database performance anomalies under tight timelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience deploying, orchestrating, and scaling database workloads inside Kubernetes container environments
  • Familiarity with financial industry compliance frameworks, including PCI DSS, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001
  • Practical exposure to high-throughput analytical databases or columnar data stores, such as ClickHouse
  • Active technical contributions to open-source database engines or infrastructure orchestration projects
  • Active cloud engineering certifications or hands-on infrastructure experience within Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Pay Range and Compensation Package

The target annual base salary or hourly wage for this specialized data infrastructure engineering role is highly competitive and will be determined dynamically based on the final candidate's depth of database automation experience, cloud systems proficiency, and localized geographic market data. A comprehensive perks and benefits overview—including standard medical insurance options, retirement plan matching paths, flexible digital-first work allowances, and paid time off structures—will be shared transparently during the initial screening conversation.

Benefits & Perks

  • Comprehensive healthcare protection featuring premium Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage options
  • Direct access to financial healthcare accounts, including pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • Employer-paid financial protections including baseline Life, AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability insurance policies
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) framework alongside paid corporate holidays to support individual work-life balance
  • Secure retirement planning infrastructure via a company-sponsored 401(k) plan
