Data Product Manager
About the role
Leads the strategic vision and roadmap for a technical product or products within Personal Wealth Data Strategy, demonstrating a deep understanding of the product(s). This role guides the development of trusted data products for analytics and insights producers to enable data-driven decisions. Data is at the core of our next chapter as we embark on initiatives to deepen relationships with clients, scale digital experiences, and leverage AI to serve clients in new and exciting ways.
The Data Product Manager acts as a central connector within the organization, bridging business needs, technical solutions, and data capabilities. This role oversees the end-to-end lifecycle of data products, ensuring alignment with strategic use cases and fostering consistency and interoperability across the data ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Actively engage with stakeholders to understand business requirements, create a data product vision and roadmap, and establish an effective feedback loop.
- Develop a deep understanding of operational data stores within your data domain, build strong ties with product teams, and ensure data quality considerations through data pipelines.
- Create and lead a development plan that breaks down the product vision into broader deliverables and manage smaller stories in an agile environment.
- Identify obstacles and roadblocks, recommend solutions, and seek help to remove these barriers or reprioritize when necessary.
- Communicate complex design and data concepts clearly and concisely, articulating updates and progress toward goals in both written and verbal communication.
- Leads technical product management activities for multiple technical products or one strategic technical product.
- Participates in the design and continuous improvement of technical solutions.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to create best practices that drive significant change to the client experience.
- Coaches technical product teams toward best practices and learnings.
- Ensures delivery of messaging, communication, and customer outreach as necessary.
- Partners with stakeholders to resolve production and implementation issues in a timely manner and supports/drives escalations where required.
- Leads the planning, development, and implementation of new technical products.
- Defines and analyzes technical markets, developing detailed product features, requirements, and implementation plans.
- Employs qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to continually improve the user experience.
- Participates in and provides recommendations for ongoing business planning and departmental prioritization activities.
- Participates in the team’s engineering practices in development, continuous integration, and automated deployment.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required; graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of related work experience.
- Two years of leading large cross-functional teams on major organizational projects preferred.
- Strong consultative skills: ability to engage with leaders at various levels and meet them on their terms; exceptional strategic and analytical thinking skills.
- Strong relationship management and influence skills to coordinate across many stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of the data product(s), including the data product development cycle, data flow, data pipelines, and data product standards and best practices.
- Ability to navigate within a complex organization and understand the impact of data modernization efforts.
- Strong technical skills: understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure and commonly used data services, tools, and languages (e.g., Athena, Sagemaker, SQL, Python).
- Foundational knowledge in data management, analytics, data engineering (data pipelines, storage technologies, integration, and quality assurance), and alignment with organizational data architecture.
- Understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data models; ability to define and govern metadata and semantics.
- Ability to drive high-quality work through a cross-functional team and execute independently when needed.
- Comfort with ambiguity and appetite to learn; eagerness to become an expert in emerging technologies and best practices.
