About the role

To support the design and implementation of the Bank’s Data Privacy Framework, monitor and report on the Bank’s adherence to its obligations and commitments in relation to the responsible handling of personal data, and act as a point of contact with Data Protection Authorities (DPAs).

Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of the Bank’s Data Privacy Framework, including policies, processes, procedures, and other artifacts, while supporting Data Protection Officers in monitoring and reporting adherence.
  • Provision of specialist support to Business Oversight Compliance teams in identifying, assessing, and managing potential Data Privacy risks from personal data processing and implementing the Data Privacy Framework.
  • Coordination of responses to personal data breaches, including containment, remediation, and regulatory reporting in compliance with statutory timeframes.
  • Management of Barclays’ relationship with DPAs by acting as a point of contact for regulatory complaints, investigations, queries, and formal consultations.
  • Collaboration with 1LOD Data Privacy SMEs, Legal, Compliance, and other risk management functions to ensure a comprehensive approach to Compliance Risk and related risks.
  • Representation in key Data Privacy industry groups and associations to identify improvements and enhance the Data Privacy Framework.
  • Support for Data Privacy education and awareness, including maintenance of Group-wide mandatory training to ensure employees understand their obligations and how to manage personal data securely.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting and delivering Data Privacy governance, privacy risk management, and regulatory compliance programs within financial services or highly regulated environments.
  • Ability to build partnerships with business, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and Operations stakeholders, providing practical advice and influencing privacy requirements.
  • Knowledge of global data protection and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, PECR, GLBA, APPI) and their application within financial services, particularly Investment Banking and Markets.
  • Experience developing and enhancing privacy frameworks, controls, policies, standards, and governance processes to support regulatory compliance and risk management.

  • Supporting data privacy incident management, regulatory engagement, breach response, and remediation activities across business, Legal, Compliance, and control functions.
  • Promoting privacy awareness, training, and privacy-by-design guidelines to embed good privacy practices in day-to-day operations and change programs.
  • Risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital/technology expertise.
  • Complex data analysis from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communication of complex or sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Influencing or convincing stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

  • Identify risk mitigation strategies and develop new policies/procedures to strengthen controls and governance.
  • Take ownership of managing risk and strengthening controls in your work.

Pay

Base salary range: $110,000 – $135,000. This range excludes other types of compensation or benefits.
