About the Role

As a Staff Data Platform Engineer at BetterUp, you will play a critical role in shaping and maintaining our scalable, enterprise-grade data systems that underpin our data products and capabilities. You will leverage your expertise to architect, build, and optimize data infrastructure that directly influences the lives and well-being of thousands of users worldwide. This role offers a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of DataOps, MLOps, and Infrastructure, supporting both analytics and AI-driven product innovation.

You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across various departments to understand their data needs, standardize tooling and processes, and ensure data security, privacy, and governance are upheld. Your work will enable the organization to unlock insights, develop new AI capabilities, and deliver impactful solutions that drive personal and organizational transformation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data platform engineering, data infrastructure, or related technical roles
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python
• Operational maturity with experience in CI/CD systems, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, monitoring, and distributed systems
• Proficiency in building and maintaining analytics stacks such as Snowflake, dbt, and Looker
• Experience in deploying and managing GenAI and ML systems in production, including MLOps tooling, vector search, embedding stores, and feature engineering at scale
• Architectural expertise in data systems, including tools like Airflow, Kafka, and general system design principles
• Knowledge of security and privacy best practices in data management
• Experience evaluating and adopting emerging AI and data tooling
• Ability to mentor and influence engineering teams on data architecture and AI integration

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data systems that deliver value to end users
• Standardize and centralize data collection, transformation, storage, and analysis processes
• Support machine learning and GenAI teams by providing robust platform capabilities for data delivery and processing
• Assist reporting and analytics teams in generating internal and customer-facing insights
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends within the data and AI ecosystem
• Manage operational aspects of data infrastructure, including vendor relationships, tooling, and processes
• Define and implement best practices for data security, privacy, and governance
• Set technical direction for the evolution of the data platform to support AI-driven product features over a 1-2 year horizon
• Mentor and collaborate with engineering teams on data architecture and AI-augmented workflows
• Evaluate new AI and data tools, driving adoption of high-impact solutions across the organization

Schedule

BetterUp promotes a hybrid work environment, valuing in-person collaboration at our US hubs located in Austin, TX; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; and Arlington, VA. Employees are expected to work from their local office at least two days per week, with flexibility to accommodate individual circumstances. For candidates outside these hubs, remote work is available, with travel up to 50% for client engagements and internal purposes.
