Data Platform Engineer

The Data Platform Team at Capstone Investment Advisors is seeking a technologist with a passion for solving complex challenges and designing resilient, secure, and high-performance systems. Responsibilities
- Build and maintain core database technologies and automation frameworks that power Capstone’s cutting-edge investment strategies.
- Design and implement database solutions that meet business needs while ensuring scalability and performance.
- Develop and automate processes using multiple languages (SQL, PowerShell, Python) to solve complex problems and build efficient systems.
- Optimize database performance through analysis of execution plans, management of indexing strategies, and troubleshooting query bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy mission-critical systems.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm’s data platform through the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience, ideally within the financial sector (equity, credit, derivatives trading environments).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
- Experience with multiple database platforms such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting for repeatable deployments.
- Version control and CI/CD experience: Git workflows and automated deployments using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
- Leverage open-source monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) for performance and health checks.
Skills
- Automation-first mindset.

Bonus Skills
- Experience with Apache Iceberg on object storage (S3) and engines like Spark/Trino.

- Familiarity with enterprise infrastructure (storage, networking, compute), Linux administration (Red Hat) and Windows Server.
- Exposure to Kubernetes.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $145,000-$175,000 USD. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
